Panel Interview Advice.

Published

Just wondering if anyone could give any general advice in reference to a panel interview for a New Grad job position. This week I'll be interviewing at NewYork-Presbyterian for an ICU position, and the panel interview apparently consists of 5-6 directors of each ICU. This'll be my first panel type, so any input would be appreciated-- as I *really* want the job!

Thanks in advance.

Have done several panel interviews:

1. Bring copies of your resume, letters of recommendation and/or application for each person on the panel.

2. Make eye contact with each person as they ask questions.

3. Get the spelling of each person on the panel's name so that you can send individual thank you notes.

Good luck...

I come from the business world where I conducted well over a thousand interviews, both panel and individual, in my career.

The above poster mentions three good points. To these I would add that from an interviewers standpoint, the most important thing to me was that the prospective employee answered the questions thoughtfully and honestly. It drove me crazy when they gave me the answers they thought I (we) wanted to hear. Also, listening to the question is very important - if you do not understand the question then ask about it. Many times people would give me an excellent answer to a question that I did not ask.

So..listen, answer honestly, be yourself- not the person you think they want to hire.

And good luck!

Thanks for the advice! It will be kept in mind for tomorrow. Any other input is definitely appreciated...
