PALS as GN

If I want to get my PALS certification, do I have to be an actual RN or can I do this as a GN. I graduate from nursing school May 1, 2006 and I want to be able to place this on my resume. Anyone know?

At my hospital, our nurse interns (some RN and some GN) go through the various 'alphabet soup' classes. I took PALS before I started the nurse internship or even had GN authorization, but I was a medic. You should probably just find a course and ask the course coordinator whether they would allow you to take it.

I noticed your nickname. If you're interested in neo nursing, you might also look at Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP).

During my orientation to my hospital we took our PALS course. I work for a Children's Hospital. You may want to inquire about PALS during orientation. I don't believe you have to be an RN to take PALS.

i've been taking pals for years, but i don't know the answer to that question. if you are planning to work peds, although it is great on a resume, it is a bit costly to take (about$200). usually the hospital you work for will pay for the class and pay you for the time that you are there.

Yes, you can take PALS as a GN. RNs, LPNs, Rad techs, Respiratory Therapists, etc. can take the course.

But, like someone said, it can be expensive. Your employer (hospital) normally pays for this. But, if you desire to do it on your own, go for it.
