Hello everyone!!
Need some help/advice/input.
Has anyone applied to and/or gotten into the RN program at Palomar college??? I have been on the wait list for almost a year and am in the 200's. If you are on the wait list, are you technically accepted but just waiting until a spot opens up? Just want to make sure I'm not relying on one school and then something comes up at the end that I haven't done, they haven't said that I'm missing anything in the application process.
Also, if anyone is in or has finished the program at Palomar, any tricks or advice to succeeding, how are the teachers, how long were you on the wait list, what color scrubs do they wear (always curious about that)

Hi Lisa ~ Yes you're in if you're on the wait list. My advice - don't work if at all possible. It's a very tough program - physically and mentally exhausting. I didn't make it past first semester as I, regrettably, dropped out but didn't feel like I could go on the workload plus working 24 hours a week. I highly recommend a CNA program before getting in, as they pretty much set you loose by yourself on the very first day of clinicals - which is very intimidating and scary. Also, buy the drug math book asap and work your way thru it before you start your first semester. You have to pass the math test. You wanna be free to study for your other tests and not be so worried about the math. Have a quiet, organized place to study and be willing to give up your social life each semester. Good luck!
Thank you for the advice!!! I really appreciate it, I am starting a CNA program soon so it's good to know that it will help. I also don't plan on working while in the program, do you know if they have classes you can take during the summer to get them out of the way instead of having all of them during the semester?
Thanks again! :)
Anyone else applying to or going to Palomar's nursing program????

Scrubs are all white w/ red trim.....I don't go there but I've seen their students at my clinicals (I go to CSUSM)

I would meet with a counselor about finishing classes during the summer session. I belive the Nursing group is a cohort - you can't take the classes earlier. But there may be additional graduation requirements you can complete. I agree about the CNA program. It was very helpful for me.

hey lisajule22,
i'm also on the palomar wait list around the 200's as well. i was thinking of going for my cna as well, where did you end up going for that -if you don't mind me asking? i've only heard good things about the RN program at Palomar, but i know it'll be a tough 2 yrs! :)
Hey belle0829
Yeah I'm in the middle of my CNA class at Coast Health Career college in Anaheim, I really like it so far but I start clinicals on saturday so I'm hoping that goes well too!
I'm hoping the waiting list at Palomar goes quickly but I'm worried it's going to take a long time since they are only going to be admitting half from the waiting list and half from the new point system starting Spring 2011....thats why I am going to start working as a CNA to get some experience while I wait. Are you applying anywhere else?
I know, I am eager to begin as well. I'm going to start looking into CNA programs in SD cty. All of the community college programs always get filled up so quick. No I'm just applying to Palomar. I'm pretty sure all of the other schools in SD have a similar wait and Palomar is the closest to me. I'm excited that there'll be a brand new facility when we're there though! Have you taken the TEAS yet? I guess they say we should do it by this Fall.
Yeah I tried to get into a CNA program at a community college like Mira Costa but it filled up really quickly so I ended up going to a more expensive private one so I could get it over with quickly. I already took the TEAS test because I applied at Riverside Community College and I took it there, it wasn't bad at all.

I am currently on Palomar waitlist also. Im in the low 100's. I spoke with the nursing adviser and she excepts i will get in next Spring 2011! Last spring i did a CNA program at Mira Costa College. I can definitly see how that course helps you. The CNA course prepares goes through medical terminology, how to transport patients, as well as the correct was to feed and bathe patients. Mira Costa's CNA course is only 8 short weeks and you also spend a lot of time at a skilled nursing facility so you can practice the skills you learn in lecture. I'm taking the TEAS exam May 3rd at Palomar, is anyone else? I've gone through 2 study manuals for this exam. Its stressing me out! Has anyone else taken it? If so, any suggestions on what to focus on?
I took the TEAS last november and it wasn't too hard at all. I bought the manual from the testing site and the problems that were actually on the test were probably the easiest problems from that study manual...so if you do good practicing then you will do fine. The math was just basic algebra and geometry type stuff and the science was actually the hardest one for me because I learned it soo long ago! I ended up getting I think a 85%.
