PACU to ED

I was just curious what you all thought about an PACU nurse transferring to ED. I somehow got wrangled into a trauma code the other day, and I kinda liked the excitement. I have always worked best when I have to think right then, instead of thinking about the situation.

I say, Welcome aboard and go for it! ER nursing is, in my opinion, an area that is like no other area of nursing. There are some days I am a OB nurse, Peds nurse, Psych and orthopedic nurse all in a matter of an hour. The ER can be on days dull and mundane but in a drop of a hat someone comes flying into the ED yelling "she is having a baby" and we run out into the parking lot and deliver a baby in the back seat of a car. Having a pt take your hand and thanking you is all the reward I need most days. ER nurse's really do make a difference. I have worked emergency medicine my entire life. From EMS to nursing and I know nothing else. I have no desire to leave anytime soon. If you think this is something you would enjoy, by all means give it a try. Maybe that is the reason you ended up on that code the other day...maybe your meant to be in the ED. ;)

Best of luck to you.

Was gonna chime in but tinyEMTgirl said it all for me. Welcome aboard!
