pacu brain?

Hi everyone! I was just wondering, do most PACU nurses use a "brain" like in many other areas? I've only ever done floor/tele nursing and I know i NEED my brain to keep my shift together. Just wondering how it works in other areas. Thanks!

I can't imagine what you'd need one for. You only have folks 30-60minutes and you've got somebody new that's rolled out. Look at your orders and do what is written as STAT or "In PACU", chart, give opiates, and move on to the next one. Wash, Rinse, and Repeat.

I only use my brain to keep my patients together. The shift takes care of itself.

thanks everyone!

What do you think we're using when we are trying to keep an airway patent, v/s stable and at the same time discharging someone else? Or how about when we have someone code, and the families are still with other patients and you have to do crowd control and make sure your doctor is responding for a different patient that might be having a problem? What do you think we're doing? twiddling our fingers?

I could say, "don't feed the troll", but I won't :D
