Overwhelmed

I am an RN in a LTC. I am the only one where I work so I carry alot of responsibility and have no back up. My boss continues to add to my schedule things to do and I am already overloaded. This is starting to affect my ability to get things done in a timely manner and I am cutting corners in a lot of ways. I am lucky to have this job as I am middle-aged and had been on disability. I am afraid I may end up there again. My doctor thinks I need to find a new job as this one is too stressful and I work extrememly long hours already. Haha. It took me two years to get this one. Basically, I love what I do, but I hate that it is becoming too much for me and having me to cut corners in care. Nothing against the law, but what I feel is not good care. Any advice? Thank you in advance.

Specializes in LTC and School Health.

LTC is a specialty where many employees are forced to cut corners at times due to the demands placed on them by the higher ups. At this time you have to do what is best for you. Update your resume and start looking again. Try school health, home health, substance abuse, anything that may be a little less stressful than LTC. I've done all three I mentioned above and it is stressful but nothing like LTC. Put you first, I know having a job is important but having you around and healthy is more important.

Thanks. You are so right. We need to care for ourselves once in awhile. I am going to start looking for something that is not so rough on my body. Do not want to get disabled again like that.
