The Ohio State University (tOSU) Grad Entry Program - 2020

Hello Everyone!

I am a starting a new thread for those applying for the Grad entry program at OSU this October for 200 entry. I am a super excited yet super nervous, I know the waiting process is tedious. I haven't applied yet, currently finishing up two pre-req courses. I am a Respiratory Therapist pursuing the FNP tract. Super excited for everyone.

Hey, I just wanted to check in with everyone! There hasn't been much activity on here like past years (so it seems). The application opens on Thursday! Ahh!! How does everyone feel? Any advice to share? Also, anyone from the Columbus area have any luck with shadowing NPs? I want to finalize my decision on the speciality I want to apply for and I think that is the best way to.

Hello @cbree14 I have noticed there hasn’t been as much activity on this thread as well. Especially being so close to the application opening ! Not sure ! But yes Thursday !! I can’t believe we are here. I remember researching this program a few years back, and considering applying and now it’s happening ! I am excited , nervous , anxious , and not looking forward to the long tedious wait for decisions but ready. I work at a hospital in Columbus. I have had the opportunity to shadow FNP, CNM, as well as WHNP within previous work experiences. I agree this is the best way to absolutely be 100% sure you are dedicating to the right specialty. I made my decision based off of these experiences. I am eager to hear from more of you pursuing this grad entry program! Good Luck to everyone. Hope this thread gets a little more lively as we approach the application period. ?

Was anyone able to attend/view the graduate entry overview session yesterday? If so, any insight or information you found useful as an applicant?

I'm also wondering what is considered competitive stats for this program. My GPA is pretty decent but not stellar. Anyone happen to know average GPA, acceptance rate, etc? I'm applying for PMHNP.

Thanks for any replies and good luck to all!

New to the site, but happy that I found this thread!

I'm currently watching one of the application help sessions that was recorded on Facebook. My app is already complete so I'm really wishing that I had waited until I saw this.

I'm also curious as to how competitive the program is. My GPA is pretty low and I'm super nervous as to how much it will affect me. I understand from the admissions sessions that, depending on the year, admissions per specialty are around 45-50%, but I have no idea how that compares to other programs.

Also, is anyone else here really peeved about the recent 32% tuition hike?

Hey Mary,

Welcome to the thread. I also have already submitted my application and have wished I knew there was a help session as well. ? My GPA is also not the greatest but I made sure to work hard on leaving an impact with my personal statement. In the info session there was a heavy emphasis on your personal statement. I am also curious about how competitive the programs may be. I am trying to put this application in the back of my mind hoping I will blink and February will be here. Seems like such a long wait !

It does seem like forever! What specialties did you guys apply for?

Hello everyone. It’s great to see this thread going. I begin school at OSU this Fall 2019. I was accepted into the BSN-to-DNP FNP specialty program. I definitely appreciate the input from buckeyekh because my background is already in nursing and I do not want to get relaxed and fail because of that. Anyhow, I’m super excited for everyone and pray everyone gets what they are applying for. I will co-sign that your professional statement is everything! There will be a seminar prior to the deadline which I recommend everyone attend either online or in person that will help you with your professional statement. The professors will tell you what NOT to include and what you MOST DEFINITELY need to include, the key words they are looking for. Feel free to ask me any questions as I begin this first year. Take care and God Bless.

Hi, My computer froze when I tried to attend the info session, now there are no more until after the deadline. Any advice you can give me about the professional statement would be highly appreciated! ?

Hello... The things I can remember they said about the professional statement were as follows...

DO NOT write that you want to do research. DO Write that you want to put evidence based research into practice.

I was told in my info session that anyone who said they wanted to do research was automatically denied.

Make sure your passion for the specialty you choose shows in your statement.

Those are the two things that stood out that I can recall. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Praying all the best for you.

There is a application help video on the nursing Facebook page if this helps !
