OR Training

I am pretty new in the field. When I graduated, I knew I wanted OR, but decided to get some basic experience at medsurg. I now have one year medsurg experience, currently unemployed & like most of us, is having a hard time getting a job. Since I am searching for a job right now, I figured might as well go for what I really want now. I am currently looking to get into OR, but it's very difficult to find facilities that have OR training programs or are willing to train. Most OR openings require OR experiences (surprise, surprise!):banghead: My question is that how am I supposed to get an OR experience if I'm not given the chance to even get in OR? If I can help it, I really would like to avoid going back into medsurg & end up leaving eventually because I know I really want OR. Does anyone know any NJ or NY hospitals that have OR training program or are willing to train? I will really appreciate any info or advice on this. Thanks.

Hi,

I know that you are posting in NJ, but may I offer to you if you are willing to relocate, DUKE in Durham, NC has an OR preceptor program. You may have to work for them for a bit but if you are open to this it merits investigation.

Good luck!

St. Barnabas hires new nurses, or nurses with no or experience. Let me know what you find out because I am also interested in the OR & am unsure how to get in.

Only prob w/ St. B is they only hire a few times per year.
