Discussion

Opinions!!

Hi, I have recently been given an assignment to do but I have sat for the last week and written nothing....well I have but I keep deleting it because it just doesn't sound right.

We have to discuss this statement

"As the population's health care needs have changed so too has the scope of practice for nurses. This has required a change in education and training to ensure that nurses have the knowledge, skills and expertise to provide compassionate care alongside new and complex roles"

I just can't seem to write my introduction on this without it looking wrong. Any advice on how I can write a good introduction that reflects this statement....I have hit a brick wall with this one.

Thanks

Dont start with the introduction. Start in the body. The introduction is to give one an idea of what the essay will be about. So if you are stuck with the introduction, then start with writing a paragraph about one of the main points you will discuss. If the introduction still doesnt come to you, then write another and so on until it does. If you are hoping someone will just give you an introduction (and I am not implying that you are) then you likely wont get it here. Just tips on how to write one.

No I don't want someone to give me an introduction...just tips really. Thanks I think I will start with the main text as you suggested...hopefully it will come to me eventually. I know what I want to say...just can't get it to make much sense at the moment.

The old saw about say what you're gonna say, say it, then say what you said applies here. Say it, say that you said it, and then write the introduction.

Writing isn't always linear. Written communication sometimes can be more effective with working around a point until your thoughts come together. Forcing yourself to do a point-to-point march isn't always productive when you get stuck somewhere.

I agree with what others have said...if you get stuck, move on to the next section. What has always worked for me: write something down, even if you are well aware that it is not very good. Put it aside for a short time. When you return to your earlier draft, it will be with fresh eyes and you will be able to see how to improve it. Repeat this process four or five or ten times, and your final draft will be a polished jewel. Of course, this approach will not work if you leave the assignment until the night before it is due, so always get started early!
