ONP with additional Supervised Practice Programme

Hi, I got the NMC decision letter to take the ONP with additional 3 to 6 months supervised practice programme. I'm on the research stage now of determining which University to enrol and whether I should avail the services of agencies to make this process easier for me. Any advice or input will be greatly appreciated. Actually, I'm thinking of Sunderland and Northampton. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi! This is Ronald and I also received my NMC decision letter last September 2009. Have you found any institution already which offers supervised practice with placement? What is the name of the institution you have applied? Thanks.

hi! are you still in the Phils? have enrolled already to an approved institution?

You need to have an employer sponsor before you can get a work permit, without this you just won't be able to be permitted to work in the UK.

Also you will find that there are less and less organisations offering placements for the ONP due to restructuring, financial constraints and the fact that there are enough UK nurses in most areas to fill the employment need.

It's not good news and the financial situation in the UK and in the NHS is not good.

If you have the NMC decision letter already and you have at least 2 years of experience, they are a lot of recruitment agencies I know that are currently hiring nurses for the UK. You might be also interested to know that they are not asking for any placement fees. Just keep on looking :)

Good luck!

The Borders Agency does require you to have experience in one of the shortage occupation areas, such as theatres, NICU or management

If these agencies are offering anything other than this I would be extremely suspicious that they are not complying with the immigration requirements

Try these agencies:

1. ASC Global ( DRAKE international )

- They offer work visa with no placement.

2. Jaikin Agency

P.S. Just google them. I am currently processing my documents with ASC Global - DRAKE international

Could you answer me a question please ronvil, how can Drake international offer a work visa with no placement, firstly because it is the Immigration agencies that offer work Visas not agencies.

If they are offering this I would be asking so very probing questions about their practice.

My understanding has been that in order to qualify for a work visa you have to have an offer of employment within one of the shortage occupation areas. Are you telling me that Drake international are not complying with this?

Hey Sam, if you join the Royal College of Nursing they have an online e-library and access to literature databases that you will find helpful.

Your university will also give you access to their online library, which when you get the hang of will be very useful

http://www.rcn.org.uk

You can join online and if your working in the UK the college will provide you with indemnity insurance and union representation as well which is essential for any nurse.

When you are here it would be wise to invest in a good nursing drugs book as some of the medication we use here will be different. There are lots of good nursing textbooks then, your university can let you know what they will expect you to have so it may be that ou can buy them when you get there

Hope this is helpful
