Registered for LS1 today and was messing around the Excelsior website. I was wondering if anyone had used the online conferences for any of their exams.

I was wondering the same thing. I tried Excelsior's program a year or so ago and dropped out due to lack of motivation. I was considering Indiana State's online LPN-BSN program, but I work full-time 2nd shift and have two young children at home, so not sure how the clinicals will fit in (would have to find a preceptor that could work with my schedule, etc.). A traditional, classroom face-to-face program is out of the question with work/family. I have no choice but to work full-time, so I can't quit my job for school. So here I am giving Excelsior another shot. I just noticed those online conferences the other day. I don't think they had them when I was doing the program a while back. Was wondering if anyone tried them, and if so, are they worth the $$. I thought they might help keep me focused, and give me guidelines with regards to what to study, etc. Please help anyone!

I was wondering too. I've decided to just jump in and try one. I'm starting Transition to RN and the next online conference starts March 5th. I talked to someone at EC and they said it is utilizes Blackboard with discussions, case studies, and assignments.. The conference is 8 weeks but if you print out the material you can go at your own pace. She said it basically breaks down the content guide into mods with study tips and advise. Good luck. Dianne

Personally not worth the money, they basically go over the study guide..umm i can read that myself. I used a third party video service and was able to pass 6 nursing exams in 6 mo using it...you can PM me for the website if you like, but i wont post it to the boards due to TOS. To each their own, you can do well just using the recommended textbooks (buy used off of ebay and buy older versions the info is all the same) i maybe spent $250 total for all my textbooks for EC. I DID like their careplan conference and documentation conference when you get to the CPNE part. HOWEVER that being said, there are only THREE care plans you get to do for a "grade/feedback" and 4 scenarios for documentation...worth $220???maybe not so much but i paid for them anyway. I did like older versions of Chancellor's study guides w/ audio as well. TCN i could do without though. Like i said its your personal feelings on the matter. I'm a visual/audio type person so i like lectures or condensed readings, but that's me! The first test i took i used the online service, and read all the recommended chapters in the textbook (my textbook cost me $4.99 on ebay and was like the 4th edition) and I got an A...i took a calendar and gave myself weekly "assignments" using the EC study guide. did the questions at the end of each chapter and listened to the videos i paid for online. worked for me! =) the first exam is the hardest, but once you get your studying groove you just keep rolling with it!
