Office nursing...

U.S.A. Michigan

hello,

i'm a rn in mi in the greater grand rapids area. i'm thinking about switching from a staff nurse job (three twelve hour shifts in an intensive care unit) to a medical office job. mainly, it's because of the hours, no weekends/holidays, and most of all, i really think i'd love the work... anyway has anyone here done this? do you have any advice/recommendations for me? i have a year of experience where i am currently working. should i stay longer at this current job before switching? i know i'm not going to be able to stay here forever. the stress is already beginning to get to me, and i'd want to leave before i burnout.

another question i have. i'm looking into medical offices in grand rapids. do you know how i can search for open positions? i've tried the saint mary's and spectrum health websites, and they don't seem to turn up much. are there specific job posting websites for medical offices (i.e. grandville family practice, mmpc, etc.)? if you work in an office, how did you get your job?

thanks so much in advance. i'm giving this a lot of thought, and will most definitely not be making any quick decisions!

How about Homecare? I work in the GR area too. I was working in a high acuity area in the largest hospital in GR - I'm sure you know which one...lol...and working 3rd shift, 1 weekend a month...

I now work homecare. VNA is owned by Spectrum Health and you won't lose your skills there. Lots of independence, keep your skills, days, only work 1 weekend every 6 weeks, I think 2 holidays a year. I really like it a lot. It's great for my family (and my sleep schedule).

I thought about office nursing too but from what I've seen, they're paid quite a bit lower.
