OCN exam - help!

Hi all,

I have been an oncology nurse for 2 years and am wanting to get certified. I have the ONS Core Cirriculum for Oncology nursing and he study guide that goes with it. (The purple text books) I am having a hard time studying. I feel that reading the text book word for word is excessive but whenever I do the study guide questions they are so detailed I feel like I have to read the chapter all over again. I am getting discouraged. Is the online bundle course that ONS offers worth the $300? Any tips are greatly appreciated!!

    Good for you that you want to get certified after 2 years of oncology experience! You didn't say where you live, but in Boston (where I am) a lot of the larger hospitals have a "certification review" all day class. It's free for the organization's nurses and usually around 100.00 for non-employees It's a comprehensive overview of what you should know for the OCN exam. Are other nurses at your facility certified? What strategies did they use? Networking might be helpful too. Good luck!!

    When I was studying, I just went through the questions in the workbook, and then read in the Core Curriculum book about whatever questions I got wrong. (It's the same way I studied for NCLEX).

    The hospital I was at when I got certified had a review course too, and a lot of my friends said that helped them prepare.

    I took my OCN test today and passed. I found that the questions in that book were not like the questions on the test, but the information was good. I did not go through many of them, though. I personally didn't do any review courses, but I have heard good things about them.
