OBGYN NPs ?

Hey everyone,

I just recently took my AANP examination in October 2015 and have been offered a position working in an OBGYN office. I am a new FNP grad with no experience. Are there any OBGYN NPs who can give me some insight as to what their day consists of? I would love to hear from you guys! Thanks !

Congratulations!!!! Will you be doing both OB and GYN? I imagine you will be overseeing the normal pregnancies, providing education and surveillance for GDM patients, working with OBs for higher risk patients, maybe doing some labor checks (but most labor checks will be sent to the hospital), NSTs, prenatal education, phone triage, etc. Maybe ultrasound as well. Hopefully you have an RN who will do a lot of that for you, as well as some good MAs. On the GYN side- infection checks, menopausal care, contraception (including IUD/implant insertions), screening visits, potentially biopsies and colpos, potentially medication abortions, menopausal care, and a zillion other things. Maybe IUIs and infertility counseling. Some offices do some limited care for male patients as well, and some primary care stuff when indicated.

I love working in reproductive health!

hi cayenne06! Thank you for your response! I will be seeing both OB and GYN patients. Wow sounds pretty amazing to work in women's health. Of course I did clinical rotations in obgyn but felt like I didn't get to see enough patients. A lot were very routine such as PAPs, normal OB patients without complications, contraceptive pills etc... It's great to hear that you love working in reproductive health!
