help
we are trying to revamp how we triage our patients when they come to the hospital. Does anyone have a triage unit, how does it work, What do you like about it, what would you change if you could? We have lots of patients that walk in and take up a bed in a labor room and we are pretty busy, so we thought if we could get a triage unit up and running, it would be a godsend for us.
Do you have regular nurses staff it. Do you use Advanced practice nurses to staff it? how do your docs feel about it.
Thanks for all the help

We have a triage unit, 8 beds open M-F 7a-7p, one nurse or two and then a secretary.. we are trying to open full time but waiting for staff to incr... at nights they come down to l&D and we usually use our recovery room which is a four bed room for ob checks..
so how many deliveries do you do a month. We only do about 2400. Do you have policies and procedures in place for this unit. Is it on your ob floor, or is it somewhere else.
thanks for your help
wow, we do about 350 a month and are a 14 bed unit. this assessment area is upstairs from our floor. what kind of p/p are you looking for, the pt either comes from the ER or the dr's office, we are notified and if that area is open they are sent there, they are placed on the monitors, some basic questions asked.. and then based on the s/s treatment is based, call the doc or cnm and they bases tx on what we assess.. most leave within an hour stay, some more, etc.
