What's wrong with this picture? Telling citizens that a vaccine will be available in 6 to 9 months seems irresponsible.

Last time I checked the mortality rate for human cases was about 50%. This comment from the article also seems irresponsible.
City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas R. Frieden approximated that a worst-case scenario for the city would be 2.5 million infected New Yorkers and 56,000 deaths city-wide.
Check my math but 50% of 2.5 million cases is.....um...carry the one.... about 1.25 million.
Is there an election coming up? Politicians will promise anything to get elected.

But I did like the idea of a major city like that to be more self sufficiant. I think a very important lesson learned from Katrina.
I agree with you there. Cities need to get off the welfare mentality of Uncle Sugar taking care of all their problems. That lesson has been around for a long time and unfortunately there are still places that haven't learned it.
