Single (again) and I have a relative who would like to rent my condo come this fall. I've got 16 years of bedside experience, BSN, certified in cardiac nursing.
I'm going to enroll in a masters program for either NP, education or nursing admin - all of these fields have my interest piqued, but it all boils down to future job opportunities. I worry that NPs are going to be flooding my area by the time I finish school, so it'll probably be Ed or Admin. Either way, I'd like to work at a hospital over the next few years that will provide me with an opportunity to climb the ladder, do clinicals for school, get the best experience. I'm a cardiac nurse, I'd like to transition to CVOR and hopefully assist (eventually), Or, cardiac ICU. I'm looking to move to NYC because, well, why not? I've seen what rent will cost me, but can anyone give me a general idea about how much they think that I will make per hour? Any hospital recommendations?

I can say that with a couple years experience you're looking at 45-50/hr (depending where you go) base and then more for nights. That's for full time. Obviously per diem is more. I don't know how much more experience pay you'll be getting for the 16 years though (I've heard experience pay doesn't add up to as much as you think it would around here but I don't know for sure)! Does that help with a general idea?
Also, taxes are crazy here and there's an additional city tax that is quite a lot. I don't know where you're coming from but I can say that living in NYC is much more expensive than other places, not just for rent. Food, utilities, going out, drinks, cabs, etc; everything here just seems more expensive than anywhere else! Just be careful when budgeting.

The ' best' hospitals in terms of pay, size, and prestige are in manhattan- northwell, mt sinai, NYULMC and ny presbyterian. Memorial sloan kettering is also a great hospital (specializes in cancer) I would say pay is btw$45-50 like other poster said. Northwell and Mt sinai and ny presbyterian columbia are union. PM with any questions, good luck!
