NYC?

Anyone been to NYC for a travel assignment? I've never even been on vacation, but have always wanted to go!

Was wondering if anyone has done this...move to NYC without having visited first. Such a big city, it makes me nervous. And what do you think about bringing my cat? I'm currently in CA and I don't think anyone else could live with my crazy kitten, poor thing. Usually I just drive to my next assignment so it's not so bad..the thought of flying somewhere w/her is pretty scary.

I heard Cross Country has contracts with several of the major hospitals there so I'll have to make the switch to them I guess:/

    I'm actually looking into doing travel nursing. I think NYC might be my first place if there is an opening. I grew up in NJ and have been to NYC and loved it. I think it would be great to live there for a while.

    I have the same questions as the original poster plus I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on Travel Nursing Companies to travel through. I was also wondering if there are any good websites that explain how travel nursing works. I'm new to all of this but I really want to travel to NYC this coming summer. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ashley

    new york city is very different then california, ive only worked in both states.completely different if your open to a new experience go for it. there is no such thing as a 4:1 nurse ratio in the er, it can range from 6 to 12 at one time which is typical

    I took my third travel assignment in NYC and ended up staying in the city for 2 years! While I came to conclusion NYC was not for me, travel nursing is perfect for giving the city a shot- you dont have to pay ridiculous rent prices, everything is set up for you! I started as a traveler at Lenox Hill on the Upper East Side then became full-time. They dont have travelers in their ER any more but I hear there are still some up in CTICU.

    I know some hospitals require a BSN for travelers (NYU). Also, for your first NYC experience I would insist on a hospital in Manhattan. You should also insist on a building with a doorman. The first building they put me in was a fifth-floor walk up with no doorman and it was craaaaazy old. I complained and they moved me into an excellent place on East 51st between 1st and 2nd. I travled with American Mobile.

    USIJurgy, are you still in NY. I'm looking to go this summer. I'm from NY, but I want to take the housing in the city. Any suggestions?? I'll be traveling with my 11 1/2 yr old son. I'm with RN Network now - in Florida. Which agencies have the contracts?? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated
