Nyc question

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey everyone. Ive heard that the hospitals in NYC are requireing a 4 year degree as opposed to a 2 year degree for RNs. Any truth to this?

I don't think that they are requiring that you have a BSN, I think that they 'prefer' it. I think that if you have an AD with experience the hospital will also hire you. If they only hire BSN prepared nurses, they are missing out on all the great ADN nurses!

I have an interview for a hospital in Manhattan in April!

Good luck with your search!

THey are giving nurses 10 years to complete their bachelors from what I hear. I think that some hospitals will only take BSN Nurses like NYU, and Mount Sinai in Queens. But, the majority take ADN nurses....I would hope... I plan to get a job right out of school..;)

I dont know if that "law" was ever passed. It was supposed to go to the board in January 2005. I haven't heard anything else about it except for reading a few posts on here. I am not one to believe hear-say though. I only have my ADN and when I applied last year for positions I was offered ever position that I applied for. I am planning on going back for my BSN in a year or so but then again... I am also leaving NY.
