NYC ED

Hello everyone,

I am an ED traveler currently on assignment in WA state. I initially wanted to do an assignment in California but because of my frustrations with the licensing issues, I give up lol I will not be buying a car and will only take assignment in areas with good public transport. I currently bike to work, and boy rain is hard in Seattle haha I am considering doing an assignment in NYC by Spring next year. I know its a bit early but because I am an Int'l grad nurse I have to plan licensing endorsements 6 months at a time. I am extending my current contract till March. I am doing 2 back to back extensions because the assignment allows me to save money to jump start my emergency fund.

I am wondering if any of you tried NYC ED? I understand saving is not a priority in NY because the city is expensive itself. I am more interested in knowing how was your experience? I've always wanted to live in the big apple even for 6 months and just get this out of my system. I'm expecting it'll be a lot of hardwork and I am okay with it. I am just curious what was your experience like?

Thank you fellow travelers.

Hopefully others will chime in, but if memory serves from past posts here, the NYC ED patient nurse ratios are tough! So you are probably spot on about hard work.

ED NYC ratio are tough! On some days i get 1:20 at the same time. I see alot of new nurses and travelling nurses from west coast that don't stay long in my hospital because they came from 1:4 ratio. NYP they will cap you out at 10, Mt Sinai and Northwell expect to get 10 or more.

Thank you for your replies guys, 1;20 is insanity! :( But I guess that is what it takes to work in NYC. I did apply last night for NY license. Wish me luck! :)

If you can survive NYC ED, you can make it anywhere! good luck!
