Nutrition

Can anyone recommend a good nutrition book or reference?

I'm looking for a basic level reference that covers vitamins and minerals.

--any recommendation would be helpful.

Since diet and nutrition are so important to health I would really like to get a separate reference specific to nutrition. We were not provided with one, besides the ATI. Although nutrition is covered in our Fundamental/Adult healt text I'd like a more information than what is provided there.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the reply nurz2be. That will come in handy, but what I'm looking for is more of a breakdown of the vitamins especially and the minerals. (dbl thanks because I forgot all about that site and all the available study stacks)

For example the water/fat soluble vitamins, what they are, what they do and the deficiency r/t disease et health problems.

Does your school offer a nutrition class that's not for nursing. I took one a couple of years ago and it was great. The required textbook dumbed it down (not calling anyone dumb) a lot to make it easier to remember the diets and vitamins. I wish I would have kept the book it would have came in handy for school. I know that Borders and Barnes and Nobles sells nutrition books also. Just grab as many as you can carry and look through them to find one that you like.

OK I found my notes from two years ago The name of the book is Contemporary Nutrition 6th ed by G.M. Wardlaw McGraw-Hill 2005 ISBN #: 0-07-299985-3. I don't know if you'll be able to find this book. It was a online class and the school I attended had a lot of books that were specifically made for them. Hope it helps.

Our textbook is called William's Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy by Staci Nix, ISBN is 0-323-02602-8.

I am doing Nutrition 104 right now prior to starting clinical in six weeks, and the textbook we are using is excellent. It sounds like it has just what you are asking for. It is: Understanding Nutrition by Ellie Whitney & Sharon Rady Rolfes, Eleventh Ed. ISBN-13: 978-0-495-11669-1

Don't know how many might be out there in the used market right now, but maybe after December there will be some. Hope it helps.

i had a Nutrition textbook for my class last semester but wasnt too happy with it, so I went out and got Nutrition Made Incredibly Easy. It worked for me! Did exactly what you are asking for as far as breaking things down and it was definitely easy to follow.

Have you given the ATI a try? I found it to be very helpful!

I have a BS in dietetics and the best book I had in my 4 years is called Food, Nutrition & Diet Therapy by Krause, et. all.

It's more commonly referred to as Krause's. It is highly regarded as one of, if not the, best nutrition text out there.
