nursing tuition help

i am about to begin a nursing program in south carolina. Does anyone know which hospitals offer scholarships? I desperately need some help for my school. They should send out a paper that says unforseen costs. If anyone has any information please let me know! i already get lottery money, but that only covers 3/4 of tuition..no books..or uniforms...thanks

Hey. What nursing program? Where? How far into the program are you? Have you gotten all of your pre-requirements out of the way and are beginning clnical rotations?

I've just completed my 2nd clinical rotation with 3 more to go and I'm not on any financial aide... but I've heard human resource representatives from various hospitals give their "Sales pitch" at various career fairs, etc.

Most major hospitals will offer scholarship money provided you promise to work for them after graduating. There is a limit to how much they can give per year, however, and most require you keep a certain grade average. Go to the financial aide office of your nursing program and ask for information or inquire at local hospitals, check out their web sites, etc. Many of the students I know who are on that kind of scholarship assistance already work at hospitals in some capacity and the hospitals even recruited some of them to enter nursing school from their present hospital job situations. Once you pass "Fundamentals of Nursing", you can work as a student nurse tech ... and you become quite attractive from an investment standpoint of the hospital because you've proven you've gotten that far. I know of some hospitals in the Florence area that will help with tuition, but from what I've seen, most of them do. Talk to your financial aid and your nursing coordinators, thet're bound to know.

thank you for replying to my question. I live in the lowcountry! I would like to work in beaufort hospital, or st. francis in west ashley. I have been accepted into one nursing program, but am still waiting to see if i got into another one. i guess that i could find out from both schools what they know! thanks again!

:) Navy reservists get money for school. They get 300 a month for going to school full time. However they must commit one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year, with a 6 year enlistment. If you have a degree already, officers make more money.

YOU should call around and inquire at the local hospitals. I live in Florence SC and both the big hospitals in this area offer scholarships. You will want to call and see what the requirements are for the scholarships they offer. I know that you have to have already began clinicals. To me the money doesn't really seem to be much but any help is better than none. Depends on the program(BSN-ADN). But the hospitals here are nice. Also fill out as many scholarship apps. as you can and try the Need based grants, they will usually pay the remainder of your tuition that you dont have if you qualify. If I can be of anymore assistance please feel free and write me. I am still currently doing pre-reqs but I am looking forward to starting clinicals in FALL 2006.

I forgot to mention of course you know that the ulitimate goal of the hospital is to get you to work for them, in most cases at least two years, if for any reason you decide not to you will have to repay them.

If you are considering one of the University Schools and haven't gotten the pre-reqs out of the way, a cheaper way is to go to the Tech schools for those courses.

You are actually the first person I've ever come across who got lottery money. May I ask how you did that? I don't participate but my DH does and I'm happy to see his $$$ is doing good somewhere.

Look into buying some previously owned uniforms and books. Look ahead and get copies of the equipment and books and see if there are others you could share with.

I had several courses that required books that I used at the library and saved bunches by not purchasing.

I, too, am a lucky recipient of lottery tuition assistance. Actually, nothing is required to get this money....It's my understanding that up to $936 in "Lottery Funded Tuition Assistance" is available to any student meeting some pretty liberal criteria at 2-year technical/vocational schools here in SC without having to prove financial need.. Lucky for me, this totally covers the two classes I'm taking in the Spring. I don't believe this is available to those at 4 year schools ( so no luck when I begin working on BSN) but I'm happy to have the help without having to pay it back!!
