Nursing in Sweden

Hi

I´m a nurse from Sweden and I would be happy to answer any questions you have about nursing here. Since you are educated outside eu/ees you are going to find it difficult to get a Swedish lisence.

You need a permit that allows you to stay here before they even look at your papers! Work permit based on your work as a nurse is not enough. You need a work/stay permit based on family relations or on some kind of humanitarian reason before they will assess your papers. Is this something you have, Swedish family / relatives?

After the work/stay permit you are going to have take tests (medical knowledge and Swedish) and it seems like you also have to get 3-6 months clinical education (supervised by another nurse).

Looking through all of this I actually realize that my journey to get to California and work was not to bad comparing it to my own country's rules.....

We have a need for nurses here (especially in certain areas, like icu, operating room) and you would be more than welcome to join us if all works out!

Dear Anna, thank you so much for your reply. I wasn't sure that anyone would be familiar with this topic since whenever I mention I know Swedish and studied Scandinavian Studies on the University in my country they look at me saying: What the heck? Oh well, I guess it's because Europe seems the end of the world for some people here . I come from Poland and I am an EU citizen. I wonder if that could help if I look for a job in Sweden. I studied one semester at the University of Stockholm. I was an au pair in Sweden for a year at that time. I didn't have to pass any language tests because they gave me credit for 5 years of Scandinavian Studies in Poland. They have some sort of agreement between those universities.

Anyways, thanks a million for the website too. I will have to see if my EU citizenship will be helfpul at all. Please stay in touch, I'd definietely would like to ask you more questions. Thanks.

I forgot to mention. I don't have any relatives in Sweden. I have friends but not family relatives.

Being a EU citizen should help a lot since you don´t need a work permit to work here. That should also mean that they have to look at your credentials if you apply. Did you go to school i usa or in Poland?

I went to a 2 year nursing school in the US. I have associate science degree from the US and BA from Poland. I'm trying to get a job in a hospital to get some experience before I have to go back. So I guess I wouldn't have a problem with the work permit, just with the credentials.

I was wondering- you can't work in sweden with an associate US degree? Sweden only accepts B.S?? confused.

Did you ever find out if the associate degree from US works in sweden? I might end up moving to sweden at some point and am intending to get an associate 1 year accelerated nursing degree in US. Any info that is useful and relevant you have discovered is most appreciated!
