nursing practice in all states

Hi everybody,

I just had a conversation with my friend and she told me that she heard of a test that you can take after you pass nclex. And that test should make it legal for you to work in all states if you wish.....Does anybody know anything about it.....I am interested because I have plans to work in Oregon and right now I am testing for NY.

Thanx:bluecry1:

Doubt this is true. Each state has their own practice act and way to get licensed.

NCLEX is the test that you must pass in order to practice anywhere in the U.S.

NCLEX has reciprocity but you have to get a license for each state you plan on working in. No need to take any other test unless it is because you are specialising

There is something called a "compact liscense" which allows you to practice any all of the states included in the liscense. The liscense stays valid as long as you are working in one of those states. You'd have to look up which states. This is mostly used for travel nurses I think.

Also MN nurses can get a "border state liscense" which allows you to practice in ND, SD, and I think also WI . . . .

Not sure where NY falls in all this tho.

Compact state only works if you reside in one and travel to work in another. If you move to the state then compact doesn't matter you have to get a license for that state
