Nursing new grad programs

Published

I am debating about applying for a nursing new grad program. I cannot seem to understand exactly what this type of program entails. I understand that every program is a little different, depending on where you go. However, I have I few questions regarding how these programs generally work. Generally, how long are these programs? What occurs after the program is over (do you have a job in the area & place that at you did this program?)? Do you have to pay a fee to do this type of program? Do you receive any compensation? Thank you for helping me with this.

They really vary pretty widely. Some pay you, some you pay to do. Some require that you have zero RN experience, some allow you to have some, as long as it's not acute care. There are a lot of stipulations, and you need to pay attention to the ones for each specific program. Few guarantee work, but most that I've seen have a good rate of hire out of the program, and students in these programs generally have preference over other candidates. How long the programs are even varies greatly, but they seem to average about 3 months.

You'll have to do some homework about the programs near you. E-mail the points of contact with specific questions after you scour the websites.
