Nursing Informatics? What is it?

The term informatics was defined by Gorn (1983) as computer science plus information science. Used in conjunction with the name of a discipline, it denotes an application of computer science and information science to the management and processing of data, information and knowledge in the named discipline. Thus nursing informatics is a combination of computer science, information science and nursing science designed to assist in the management and processing of nursing data, information and knowledge to support the practice of nursing and the delivery of nursing care.

Is there such a thing as a nurse informatics degree is if so where can you obtain it? I am also interested about this field of nursing. Thank you.

New York University in New York City has recently introduced a graduate degree in nursing informatics. They are on the Web so you should be able to get information on-line. The phone number for the nursing program is 212-998-5317

University of Maryland at Baltimore offers a Masters and Doctoral Program.

University of Utah offers Graduate and Undergraduate Programs.

Northeaster University offers Nsg. Admin. Specialization-Graduate Course in Nsg. Informatics.
