I am a nursing student who will be graduating in 1 year. My husband and I have began talking about starting a family. I really want to wait until I graduate next year but then I will be getting ready to start working. I don't really want to be a Stay at home mom because I am excited about being a nurse but I want to raise my children not someone else.
2 questions: 1. What shifts do you find best to work when it comes to juggling a family and career? My husband works M-F 8-5
2. As a new employee are you entitled to maternity leave? I have looked at several websites of hospitals in my area and none of them state anything about maternity.
Thanks,

I am married and have 2 boys. A 7 year old and a 3 month old. I work dayshift(7-3) and my husband works evenings. One of us is always at home so we don't need a babysitter and both of the boys get to spend time with both their mom and dad. If you could work an opposite shift as your husband, that may work. Or if you know a good babysitter you could all be home in the evenings.
At my job we are able to have maternity leave after one year of employment so if you time your pregnancy just right it may work out. Check with your short term disability policy first.
