I am looking for advice from those who are currently working as a nurse. I’m in my 40’s, children are older, and have decided to start my prerequisites now and apply to an accelerated BSN program (I actually already have a BA and MS in non-science subjects). I have applied for a few Nurse technician positions, with the intent to work part time while I do pre-reqs. Would you suggest this? I would like to get my foot in the door/get some exposure but not sure if this is the advisable route. Thanks!!

Usually nurse techs are already in nursing school. You might try getting your CNA, nursing assistant training so you can get experience. But you might not have time to work in fast paced ABSN program.

I would check your state's rules on this, but as the above poster said, usually nurse techs are already in nursing school. In my state, you need to have completed at least one term of clinical rotations in nursing school to apply for a nurse tech license. I agree that CNA would be the way to go, but you will need to complete a CNA program first and then get licensed in your state. CNA experience can definitely get your foot in the door though.
I am in Michigan and I’m fairly certain that nurse techs don’t need to be certified. I’m also trying to get into volunteering to get experience.
