Nurse practitioner

Are there any Nurse practitioner programs in Utah? And are they good quality programs? Just curious.

Yes University of Utah offers several.

University of Utah offers many, but they are all Doctoral programs, so that's 3 years full time.

Other schools that offer NP programs in Utah are Brigham Young University and Westminster College. All three seem to have good reputations.

Some reputable schools (such as Gonzaga and Vanderbilt) also offer online / distance completion programs for a Master's as an NP. My friend is in the Gonzaga program.

Just a note the reason they are all doctoral programs at the U is because from now on to be a Nurse Practitioner you must have a doctorate. Anyone finishing their masters now will be grandfathered in but anyone applying for graduate school now will not be. I am interested in getting my N.P. so I've done some research on it. The U offers a number of quality programs, I prefer them personally but I know some nurses have done it online and just flown in for the clinical a in other states so for a working nurse this my be best. The U doesn't seem to let you do a doctorate part time. They are kind of all or nothing that way. Good luck whichever program you decide on!

You are not required to obtain a doctorate degree to become a Nurse Practitioner. There is a recommendation that all NP programs offer a DNP degree by 2015. You may still obtain a Masters degree and practice as an NP for many years to come.

Thanks I thought the DNP was the only way after 2015
