NP preceptors

Published

Hi,

I am an FNP student in NC. My FNP program is out of state. They require us to find clinical sites, what's the best way to approach this in my search?

Emails, phone calls, in person?

Any suggestions?

I can tell you that my providers get letters from NP students all the time, and if they don't know the person, it generally goes in the trash. So I would not take that approach.

Network, network, network. Go to local NP meetings and meet people in person.

If you count emails, phone calls, letters and messages from professors on behalf of students it isn't unusual to be approached 15-20 times a semester about being a preceptor. Way too many to wade through.

I will always take the student who comes up to me at a meeting and proves they are interested in my area of work, willing to learn and can tell me why I should take them as a student.

Great feedback! Thank you
