NP employed as nurse educators?

Specializes in Plastic Surgery, ER.

I'm about to graduate with my FNP so I'm looking for jobs too :)

Anyways, one thing that comes to mind is that to be able to re-certify, don't you have to have a certain number of hours actually working as an NP? Where I live nurse educators are typically RN/BSNs so I'm not sure that would count towards re-cert hours.

Would they let you work a few hours a week as a provider in the ER? Sort of split the time?

I am currently a nurse educator in an ICU and will graduate with my FNP Next month. I plan on working in this position until a FNP postition becomes available. I will tell you that I think it has its advantage of preparing you for the FNP role as educator.

The position is for an advanced practice nurse. I think that primarily it's a CNS role. In regards to re-cert hours - I think you are right.

Are you considering this position primarily because it appeals to you or because you haven't been able to find work as an NP? If you wouldn't be working anyway, that should factor in to how you weigh your options. How motivated are you to continue to seek out NP opportunities to build your career in that direction if you're working full-time as a clinical educator? Some might have a hard time taking on a completely new role while simultaneously actively seeking to shift professional direction.

Best wishes!
