So, I haven't been to this site in quite awhile, but it served me well in the past, so I figured I'd give it another go.
I graduated in May 2012 with my ANP/GNP. I will take the boards in the next 1-1/2 months and have been offered an NP position at a hospital different from the one I currently work at as an RN. I am going to pick up my credentialing package on Wednesday and was asked to bring in several documents (licenses, etc.). What sorts of references do they ask for in the credentialing package? I ask because my current supervisor does not like me, so I don't want to have to use her as a reference, not that she would do it anyways. I was hoping to use an NP that I have worked with and is with my current employer, a professor from NP school, an MD on the unit I work, and possibly a preceptor I had in school. I am not ready to give notice, and I cannot use my current supervisor as a reference.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Preferred references in the credentialing process are providers familiar with the NP role who can speak about your competence in carrying out the responsibilities of an NP. A nursing manager would not be ideal in such a case so you're perfectly fine using the individuals you mentioned.

All of the facilities that I have been credentialed with have required professional references that were either nurse practitioners or MDs - they required that the reference has the same or a higher level of licensure than the individual applying for privileges. Some facilities have even required that all references be board certified in my specialty. In the past I have used colleagues (MDs or NPs) that I have worked with or preceptors from my NP program as references for credentialing.

I recently completed two credentialing applications for the two facilities I will see patients at. Both required three references each, but one organization wanted two peers that were NPs and the director of my program ( they want references that can verify your clinical competence) because I was a recent grad from May 2012. The second application that I completed requested two NPs and a physician. My references consisted of my preceptor ( who I also worked with at my facility), the MD on that service, my clinical site evaluator, and the director of my ANP program. :0)
