Now I get it....

Today I got a full dose of what nurses do (im a student). Let me just say...nurses are amazing.. Nurses can answer 6 call lights, get water for that ever thirsty patient, pass pain meds to all of her patients, talk with the family and make them feel at home, have a student nurse (insert me), take patients to the potty, prevent falls, teach, cry, love, give report, get that warm blanket, sweat buckets in that PPE, make people laugh, chart, document, talk with doctors, talk with other nurses, comfort the patient...ECT!.. all in a matter of 30 minutes. I mean the art of nursing is truly amazing. I don't think people really understand until they do the work or they see it done. All I can say is, my nurse ROCKED today! Im so blessed I got an opportunity to work with you. Yes, we worked our tails off and yes my feet are swollen now (hehe) and yes im in the bed at 7:30 pm. But I would do it all over again because today made me that more determined to reach my goal and become that super nurse.

A nursing career can definitely be a crazy dance you love doing.

As many people on AN gripe, that's also as many who get into a groove and love their work.

Glad you had such a good example of the art of nursing!

Best of luck to you!

OP, thanks for your posting!

Yes, the profession has its ups and downs. However, good nurses make a difference in the lives of people at their most vulnerable times. I have seen many people break down because their illness emotionally overwhelmed them. Only great nurses were there to live that experience with them, to comfort them and to give them hope.

Thank you for uplifting us with your posting!
