now what is going on there?

Person who graduated last spring and now has 7 months experience was surfing Pittsburgh area web sites looking at starting salaries for new grads. She noticed that everyone was offering less than they had offered her when she was job hunting a year ago. My own hospital web site was offering a starting salary for new grads that was $2.00 less than the what she had started at last June. I don't know this for sure because I haven't looked at new grad salaries in long time. I said to her, "are you sure they just have not updated their web pages in long time". She said no because she had surfed these same pages a year ago and she remember what they were. What the he** are they up to now?

The only things I can think of that would drive the salaries down are;

The economy. Health care is the biggest industry in Pittsburgh, all other types of business are hurting big time. A lot of people in Pittsburgh are out of work with little to no prospects or, they are elderly, Pittsburgh has the second largest population of elderly people in the US behind Dade County, Florida. If they get sick, who's going to pay for their health care. The hospital is going to have to eat a lot of it. Therefore, they've got to cut costs by keeping salaries low.

That's just what comes to my mind. Don't know if it's true or not.
