I live in a small town where there is only 2 avenues for LPN, geriatrics ( which is where I work), or CPU at the small town hospital. I am. On thinking about moving to Virginia so I can maybe have more of a choice. My concern is that because I have only worked in LTC, I might have trouble finding a job in something else? Any advise? I've been an LPN for 2 years.
Should say PCU

PCU is the patient care unit. Sorry I know it's different every where you go.

I don't think you will have a problem. I am kind of in the same situation right now-I am moving from TN, where I work in LTC, to NY. I only have just over a years experience, but I have been applying for all kinds of jobs. I have gotten calls back on jobs that have nothing to do with LTC.
That would be great if I could get experience somewhere other than ltc. Thanks for your info.

Being an LPN in Virginia I'd have to say that the majority of hospitals and specialty clinics, etc, are hiring nothing but RN's. It's weird, there's a hospital near me that has an LPN school but then won't hire them. Then again, they also have a program to obtain a three year degree but only hire four year graduates. Makes no sense to me. I live in south central VA so can only attest to the trends in this area. Not sure how it is, for example, in northern VA or the tidewater area. Best of luck in whatever you decide!
Thanks for the info! I am considering applying thru DOD or government being that I am a veteran! Maybe work as clinical nurse on one of the bases?
Have you looked into working for a VA hospital? I know they give preference to veterans, the pay is good, the benefits are outstanding and there's even a chance to travel if you want. Just a suggestion.
Yeah I thought of that too. I guess time will tell what happens.
