Northeastern Fall 2009 Direct Entry

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Anyone else super excited to be accepted into Northeastern's direct entry program? We're going to be nurses! I'm 21 (graduating in May), from Massachusetts. How about everyone else? I plan on living at home, at least for the first part of the program then hopefully moving to Boston for the co-op RN experience. I know September is quite a ways away but I can't wait to meet all of you :nurse:

Congrats and Good luck to anyone who's still waiting to hear!

And If anyone has been through the program, do you have any advice for us newbies?

Congrats! I just got my letter yesterday! I'm also 21 and from Massachusetts, but I'm at school in Providence right now and will be graduating in May. I am SO excited to have been accepted. I have a couple of other options, but I really love the idea of the co-op experience and going to school in Boston, so I'm 95% sure that I'll wind up at Northeastern. I can't wait to get started, and I look forward to meeting everyone!

Good luck if you're still waiting to hear or deciding!

Congrats! I go to school in Providence too, at PC. Where do you go?

I'm at Brown, but I used to go to PC every weekend to watch women's hockey when my cousin played there years ago. :) I wonder if there are any other new DE students in the area - it would be great to meet sometime before the fall!

That's so funny- I go to Thayer all the time & love the East side. I'd love to get together sometime before the fall. I'm glad there's going to be another recent grad in the program- I think the average age at Northeastern is 25!:nuke:

I agree - it'll be nice to have someone else in the program who's coming from the same place...literally! I'm so excited to be spending the next few years with the same group of 30 students who are all really enthusiastic about nursing. :) I do worry about how I'm going to pay for the program (I was originally planning to go to UMass for the lower tuition), but there's always a way.

If you're living at home for the first year, does that mean that home is pretty close to Boston? I live a little too far to commute, so I'm planning to move up to the South Shore at the end of the summer.

Are we the same person? LOL I was thinking the same thing about UMass but I decided that if I'm going to spend the next couple years in a city, I'd much rather it be Boston than Worcester! Home is about 40 min outside Boston (west) so I'll be taking the commuter rail right into Ruggles. Although I'm not thrilled about moving home, I figured it will only be for a year or so.

I can't wait to meet you & the other 28 nursing enthusiasts! :wink2:

Hey I'm also attending NEU's DE Program this fall! I'm currently living and working in Boston since I graduated from college in 2006. I'm excited for the program to begin but also not excited about not having an income anymore and living off of student loans! Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi All,

jnd1213, I know you sent me a PM a while back, but unfortunately I was unable to respond d/t the fact that my account is "basic" (I tried to reply, but unfortunately didn't have alot of time to figure out what was going on). At any rate, glad to see that you are going to be in NEU's DE Nursing Program as a part of Cohort 8 (they will refer to each class as a cohort, and 8th because you're the 8th class of the program). Congrats to you all! If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. Last semester was hell (but definitely survivable), so I didn't have much of a chance to do anything but study...this semester should be a little easier w/ more time to chat. You will all LOVE the program...it is soooo worth it!!!

Hi all! I see that you all are current students in the DE program at NEU. I was just recently accepted for Fall 2010 Entry. I'm super excited! I've been up to NEU twice but neither visit was very informative because one trip was over the summer and the campus was deserted lol and the other was my interview. I would love to attend a graduate open house however I live 5 hours away in New Jersey and cannot travel up there during the week. The only information I have is from what's online. I'm trying to decide between NEU and one other school. In order to make my decision I was hoping you could give me some insight into what its like being in the program.

How many students are in the program?

What's the first semester like? Do clinicals in hospital settings start immediately? Aside from classroom learning what other methods are used to prepare you? (i.e. simulation labs?)

I've read on a few discussion boards that its difficult to get clinical placements because of all of the competition from other nursing programs at other schools - is this true?

I'm not sure if you'll know the answer to this question yet but is it difficult to find a job upon completion of the program? I've heard that there are very few openings for new grads in the Boston area.

Do you live on campus? Is it expensive?

Okay, I think I've wracked your brain enough for one morning haha! Thank you so much in advance for your feedback :)

Hi chemistry03,

I saw that you sent me a private message asking the same questions about the DE program, but I'm not able to reply to private messages. I love Northeastern and I'd be happy to tell you about my experience so far, but I'd rather do it privately. If you're comfortable sending me a private message with your regular email address, I could get in touch with you that way.

Conrats on your acceptances!

Hi!

Congratulations on getting into NEU! I'm thinking you're in the program now, how is it going?

Do you have any advice for the interview? I have an interview tomorrow and I would really appreciate any advice/tips you have to offer!!

Thanks!
