Non-solicitation agreement

I'm being asked to sign a non-solicitation agreement as a condition of employment from a company that offered me a job. This agreement would last 1 year after my employment ended. I've never been asked to sign one before and I'm concerned about the possible implications if I do leave this company. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

Did you read the agreement in totality? Usually these agreements/clauses are put in place to prevent an individual from poaching clients after they leave.

Yes, my concern is that it's very vague, and could apply to all the nursing homes and hospitals in my area. I understand them not wanting me to poach current clients or staff, but the 1 year part really bothers me.

Read it carefully, what are they requiring? A non-solicitation agreement wouldn't prevent you from working elsewhere, it would prevent you from taking clients or staff to a competing business.  Makes sense I suppose if there are concerns about former staff taking patients to a competing or private practice.
