I'm fairly new to this site. I'm also starting the process to become a CNA. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some good advice or tell me what i should expect in the training. I'm afraid this is going to be too hard for me, but thats probably just my nerves. I'm a full-time college student and i work a part-time job (or two) so i'm used to a busy schedule.

Hello!!
You sound just like me. I'm a full-time college student as well.
I take a class on the weekends-both days- 3-11pm.
It's a lot of time, but it's not as hard as you might think. The reading material and concepts are simple and mainly common sense. The hard part for me was applying them in the real setting for the first time. After you do them a couple of times, then it's not so bad.
It is time consuming to take on a class, but I feel that it has been one of the best things I've ever done. I'm a pre-nursing AND acting student and I wanted real experience before I handed over 60,000 dollars for a BSN. I love working with the people and I love it when you can make them smile just by saying hello and starting a simple conversation.
I love the residents who get excited to talk to you about the baseball game/hockey game/flowers/weather/family. They remind you how important the simple things are and it is really a humbling experience.
Of course, there are difficult things that I've found. I was SOOOO nervous not so long ago. I'm not an expert in the CNA field, I started a month ago. But I'll be the first to admit that I was so nervous to the point that it made my stomach feel sick. I posted on here daily about how scared I was. *really!!*
So go for it if you love people. Go for it if you want to learn more about the nursing profession. The biggest thing that got me through my hardest moments in my first round of clinical was remembering that these are people who need and appreciate you.
I hope this helps. But let me know if you have more questions- I'll be glad to help with anything I can.
Good luck,
Emma
Thanks! I can't wait to get started. I thought I had found a class I could sign up for, but it starts on the last day of my finals....so I'm going to have to find one that fits into my schedule!
