Great to find a site for nurses to discuss the problems/rewards/general topics in nursing. I work in the ER, in an inner city. I'm finding it harder & harder to believe my patients are telling the truth, so many of them lie about their names, addresses, etc, how can I believe their complaints or medical history? It's so frustrating because I really want to help them if they need help.
Hope I can get some constructive advice here.

I tend to believe people, and then when they lie I feel foolish. But after many years (15 or 17, can't quite remember :) ), there are certain tales that just don't buy my credulance. My cynicism has grown beyond belief over the years.
But remember the ED credo: you can't fix stupid, but you can sedate it.
Again, welcome~

How long have you been an ED nurse? I have found the my cow feces meter developed with experience and I didn't care where you lived or who you are a GSW is GSW. YOu will get better withe time and develop your own brand of sixth sense.
