Hi. I am a pre-nursing student at DMACC in central Iowa. I got my CNA back in 2009 and have been a full-time student at DMACC since Summer 2014. I already have most of my pre-requisites done except for chemistry, statistics, advanced CNA, plus TEAS. I will be taking chemistry, statistics, and nutrition next semester. The school I go to has a waitlist of up to 2 years but since they put in new pre-requisites, people have been able to get into the program a lot faster. Not only do I have most of my pre-nursing requisites done, but I have most of the nursing requisites out of the way too. Depending if I will have to wait, I will do microbiology next fall with sociology. I have decided if there is no waitlist, Since DMACC doesn't have nursing courses in the summer, I would rather take microbiology in the summer with no other classes instead of taking it with nursing courses. Has anyone ever taken microbio in the summer so they wouldn't have to take it with nursing courses?

Welcome to AN! Prior to becoming a nursing major, I took a higher level bio course over the summer. It was very hectic and fast paced, but I was able to keep up. I do know that when I was taking A&P before changing my major, the professor opted to delay a test because it was scheduled on the same day as the first nursing clinical for those students. So, while it's probably not ideal, it is possible to do both a science with a lab and a nursing course. Have you spoken with any current students who could give you feedback?
