New - please explain terms

I'm new to this site and nursing. Could someone please guide me to where I can learn the abbreviated terms that are often used on this site like PEDS, LTC, etc.

Here's a good website with some of the most basic abbreviations:

http://www.globalrph.com/abbrev.htm

Once you get through those and are ready for more challenging ones, this is a great site where you can type in the abbreviation and it searches all the possible matches (some abbreviations have more than one meaning:rolleyes: ):

Have fun!! :chuckle

Sometimes they're just made up. Had an MD order "S&D" in his post-op orders once. Had to call him up to find out what on earth that was supposed to mean. Answer: "Sit and Dangle." Swell.

That was one of my favorite non-sense MD orders. Right up there with "Give him something for his bowels."
