New Grad without Experience

Published

Hi, I am so glad to have somewhere I can share my feeling and concern with many nursing students.

I am currently attending 4 year college in Westchester in NY and will graduate in Dec. 2021. However, I do not have any working experience in 10 years. I worked in Mexico 2000~2002 as a factory manager, then got married and raised my two kids for 13 years. I started my nursing degree 4 years before and will have a BSN in this year. I would like to know is it going to be hard to get a nursing job in the hospital without working experience? I am kind of under depression... .

Many hospitals and other entities will hire new nursing grads, and many new grads have no prior nursing work experience. Your school should be able to point you to the local hospitals that have hired new grads from your program before. Start looking now, interview, and apply now so you can be first in line when you all graduate from college!

Congratulations on the hard work it must have taken you to get this far. That will be in your favor as well.

Good luck!

There's some things you can do to help you stand out. Depending where you live, it can be competitive.

While you're in clinical rotations still, network. Introduce yourself to charge nurses and managers and make an impression. Let them know you are interested in working at their facility.

Ask your clinical instructors now for recommendation letters. Clinical instructors often have ties to local hospitals and their recommendations carry weight.

I have so many more hiring tips and strategies for you in my book https://www.amazon.coYour-Last-Nursing-Class-ultimate-ebook/dp/B071ZZHY1R/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=how+to+land+your+first+nursing&qid=1628185331&sr=8-1

It's free on Kindle right now ?

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth
