New Grad Tips

Hello,

I am a new grad living in Toronto and have been having a tough time finding a job. I know it is a tough time for landing a job as a new grad RN, but was wondering if anyone has any tips as far as other avenues of applying or other areas. I have mainly been applying to hospitals but have also applied to positions on Charity Village, Indeed, Workopolis, etc. I have a pretty decent resume as I have been working in home care/ retirement homes for 7 years now and have had some pretty great summer jobs as a camp nurse, etc. If there are any new grads who have recently (in the past year) found a position and have any tips or current RN's in the GTA that would be great!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

I've heard Toronto is one of the toughest markets to find a job. That being said, find out the managers emails and email them directly with your resume. Go in to the places you want to work and ask to speak to the manager and give them your resume directly. That's how I got my job as a new grad and how many of my classmates did too.

Also, some managers can create a new grad position for you (the new grad guarentee)...my manager loves the program so that's what she did for me (we always have at least 2 new grad RPNs and 2 new grad RNs on my unit....she loves it)

I don't know about Toronto however I have only seen RN jobs lately in local hospitals (Brantford, Cambridge etc...) if you can move you make find that there are more options available.
