new grad

Hello everyone

I am a new grad and got hired out of pure luck to work for a home health agency. I am feeling quite nervous and will receive about two hours of training prior to starting.

What do I take with me on my first day? It is a 12 hour shift and I'm not quite sure what materials I will be using. The patient is alert, and does not require anything to difficult, no gtube or trach.

Thank you

Bring whatever you will need to do assessments. Stethoscope, gloves, alcohol or cleaner for you stethoscope and instruments, pen light; they will probably have their own BP cuff, but if you have a manual one, have it in the car just in case. Lunch, instant coffee or tea, utensils (you never know if someone wants you eating off their utensils and vice versa. Black pen(s). I have a backpack filled with everything that I carry with me to my various clients. Good luck!

Sounds like private duty instead of home health. You didn't get hired out of luck...you're a warm body with a license (just being real). Very few are actually picky. You will need to bring your own food/drink, a pen since they can be hard to find in someones home, phone charger in case your phone battery gets low and you need an emergency phone, stethoscope unless you enjoy using a disposable stethoscope shared by others. 2 hours isn't enough time...already sounds like a bad company. If you are a new nurse, this is even more dangerous.
