New Grad Program at UCLA?

Hi they have a new grad programs for all nurse with a degree no matter if you have an BS or AS and they pay rate is the same for both no difference.

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows if the UCLA New Grad Residency program accepts ADN's, or is it just for BSN's? I am graduating with my associate's degree, that is why I am asking.

As long as you pass the NCLEX exam and you pass the interview, they will hire a new grad RN regardless of whether you graduated with a BSN or an ADN. Some places will let you work with an interim permit with the understanding that you take the NCLEX within 30 to 60 days of hire. If you don't pass the NCLEX, the interim permit expires immediately and you will not be allowed to work until you pass it. Just a little pressure to pass! :uhoh3: But seriously, the vast majority of people pass on the first try.

Hi I just joined this forum. I recently graduated from nursing school in May and got a new grad residency program offer at UCLA's Mattel Children's Hospital two weeks ago. What I was wondering about is how long does it usually take for the background check to be complete and for the hospital to call you back regarding the paperwork to fill out?

I am an oncology nurse here and I love it. Its an intense hospital to work at. I have a family member who is often a patient here and he has been on basically every floor here and I have to say that we have had the best experience on the 5th floor and 8th floor. I also have a friend who works on the 5th floor and she does not like it. So i guess it depends on the floor...but I like it a lot.

5th floor is med/surg with some cardiac monitoring and floor is onology with med/surg overflow as well as gyn onc.

I am a new grad and was hired at UCLA. I will be starting in Feb 07. How did the RN residency work out for you? Do you still work there?

UCLA is constantly hiring new grads (ADN RNs) for the New Grad Program. They also actively sponsor and hire many RNs from outside the USA. There's no pay difference for an ADN or BSN. All New Grad Hires start as CN1 (at $28.00 per hour). After six months, one becomes a CN2 (at $29.90 per hour).

As a new grad, one will receive the best of training and experience, because the patients who come to UCLA are the most ill. UCLA takes patients that other hospitals can't take, or give up on (that's why UCLA is listed as best hospital west of the Mississippi).

After 2 or 3 years, many of those new grad hires then move on to other hospitals within the Los Angeles area at a much higher hourly rate than their peers with the same years of experience. This is because when the hiring person finds out that one has worked as a UCLA Nurse, they will offer a little higher pay for that UCLA experience. Then UCLA looks for more new grads to fill the void.

Does anyone know when UCLA starts there new grad residency programs? I don't graduate until the end of August 2007. I have been trying to find a NICU new grad program that doesn't start in the middle of the summer....this has been a problem. I'm in an accelerated BSN program and we don't graduate until August which is hindering me from finding a program that starts after I graduate.
