New to Excelsior!

Published

Hello everyone!

I am new to Excelsior and somewhat confused. I want to only test out of courses. I am currently an RRT and wouldn't you know my A & P time ran out, so I have to take A & P and the core nursing classes. I did the orientation online and the course the want you to take prior to starting, but do I need to register for a course or do I just study and then register for the test? Any information or tips on best ways to study would be wonderful!

The best thing to do is take Microbiology and A&P, pass those and then take Transitions to the Registered Nurse exam. Once that's done you can enroll in the school of nursing and finish your last seven nursing exams. I would advise you to hurry as the July 2015 changes are less than a year away and those changes look like a nightmare in the making.

As for how you do this. Register for an exam and purchase the corresponding practice tests for that exam. Take the first practice test and determine what you need to focus on. Then download EC's content guide for that exam, use that as a study guide while using the StudyGuide 101 study guide for that exam. Once you think you're ready, take the second practice exam and if you make a 70 or up, take your actual exam.

I can't emphasize this enough, register for the exam and take the first practice exam before you start studying for the exam. The practice exams are a huge help.

Just to add a note of clarification to the above, Excelsior has the practice tests for purchase...you do not need to purchase practice tests from other sources (i.e. Test Prep companies). Your best resource is what Excelsior says to use.
