New CNA

Published

I am 17 and in high school and took the CNA class through the vo tech program at school. I passed the state test and just started working in a nursing home. I was excited and thought I would love it, but I don't know anymore. I took this because I was planning on being a nurse and I thought it'd help me, but now I want to go into dentistry. My issue is, I'm a really introverted person, I have super bad anxiety and it's hard for me to talk to the residents in the way I see all of the other CNA's do. Another thing, I am really bad at taking blood pressure due to a problem with hearing and I feel as if the girl orientating me was getting frustrated. I have panic attacks and I don't know what to do. I have to have a job, and I want to like this, but it's difficult for me. I need advice on how to enjoy it and be more outgoing towards it.

There are stethoscopes made for people that are hearing impaired. However, I'm sure they are expensive so if you don't think you'll stick with it, it's likely not worth the investment.

Some people just have an easier time interacting with others, but some of that comes from practice. That aspect should get easier over time and it's a skill you may as well learn now. However, if you are truly miserable and can get another job, give a proper notice and quit.
