New Areas to Explore? HELP

Published

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping to get some words of wisdom from fellow nurses. I am a new nurse and I am currently working on a cardiac floor. I am having some personal crisis. I don't really enjoy my job. I was hoping to see if anyone had anything to share for some potential new areas I could explore.

I am no stranger to healthcare. I was a CNA for three years before becoming an RN. I worked on both neuro and cardiac units while being a CNA. However, it was a different hospital than where I am currently working as an RN. I don't think other units will satisfy what I would like, if that makes sense.

My family also is in the healthcare industry. My sister a nurse in DNP school, my father a nurse for many years, and my brother is a radiologist technician. I enjoy helping people but I feel floor nursing is not for me. I know however, I do need to stay for experience. I was just seeking advice to research new areas to explore once I gain my minimal experience.

What my brother does in radiology very much interests me, but I don't know if there are any positions in the realm of nursing there. I think I would enjoy some sort of diagnostic area.

Any help, advice, anything is appreciated. Thank you!

You could maybe try working in Ortho as a nurse. You'd get to see lots of cool fractures and x-rays í ½í¸Ž digestive nursing does a lot of cool scoping and abdominal ultrasounds. Do a little research. Maybe shadow a few nurses

Be grateful you are doing well enough to stay employed as a cardiac nurse. One day, you may regret not appreciating the job as much as you should and/or wanting to be somewhere else. You may end up with a worse job, and have to live with pain every day knowing you didn't do enough to keep your first job. Cardiac nurses are incredible and not everyone can be one. As a new nurse, be proud of having the capability to work in a challenging area.

Thanks for the advice! I'll make sure to do some more research :)
