Nervous about applying to UTA.....

Looking for feedback...........Over the last couple of months I have been researching online RN to BSN progarms. I have it narrowed down to 3: University of South Dakota, University of North Dakota and UTA with UTA being the front runner. I would like to make a final decision and apply, will probally apply to UTA first. As with any program you always worry about their diffuculty of completeing as well as the diffuculty getting accepted. I have read alot about being partnered with hospitals and I am not. I would like to get my BSN and then move right into the MSN program. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I just started the RN-BSN program with UTA a couple weeks ago. I am from CA and have no association with partnered hospitals. It took about 6 weeks total for the whole application and acceptance process and it was really easy. I believe they even have an RN-MSN program.

As long as you meet the minimum qualifications you are in. The program is very flexible. You can take one class or go full time. You can also change that each semester. Be prepared to take several "Texas" classes though since it is a Texas university IE Texas history, which will add to the time and the $$ to complete the course. The RN classes are only 5 weeks long so it is easy to finish them, even if you hate the class (IE It does not drag on). I am almost done with their program. I am sure there are better schools out there, but you really aren't learning how to be a nurse. You did that with your ASN RN classes. Also, there are no clinicals and you can take time off whenever you want. The school is VERY focused on plagarism. Be very careful in that regard. Message me if you have questions. Edit: You do not need to have an employer affiliation. I think that just makes it more likely your employer will pay for it. My employer will not pay for it.

The application process is straightforward and the processing is very timely. My complaint - the reason I went elsewhere - is with their evaluation process. Most schools, on-line or brick-and-mortar, try to work with you to get you an accurate and equitable evaluation. In my experience, the opposite appears to be true at UT-A and the process seems designed to ensure that you take as many courses at UT-A as possible. I was prepared to take the "Texas-centric" extra courses but not all the others that they demanded. The school I eventually wound up with (in another state but similar to UT-A in that it's a traditional university that happens to offer an on-line RN-BSN) accepted virtually everything and I had only to take the nursing classes.

My case was somewhat different since I have several prior degrees and YMMV, but it's something to keep in mind.
