hello all. i just passed nclex on thursday:) have a job in telemetry as RN and i am very nervous to start. i worked as a CNA for the past 5 months so am kinda used to the hospital setting and i do love it. im mostly scared a patient is gonna ask me a question i dont know the answer to. is this normal? were you all nervous when you started your first job? any advice is much appreciated! thank u:)

Congrats on you on passing the NCLEX and starting a new job. Being nervous is normal as this is something new to you. I havent started my first nursing job but can only imagine how excited and nervous I will be. Im almost sure you will be shadowing someone and there are plenty of Nurses who are willing to help you. If you dont know the answer be honest with the patient but say you will get the answer for them. I only see a patient asking questions of you only if you appear to not know what you are doing.
Awe thanks so much:) yes i absolutely love everyone i work with and they are so helpful all the time. ive been working as a cna for a few months and patients ask TONS of questions. they would think i was the nurse sometimes or even know i was the cna and ask medical questions. then i could say that they should ask their nurse...well know i am the nurse so cant say that anymore lol. i will be fine...ya gotta start somewhere right?! good luck to you in your job search:)

Two options for medical questions, if you don't know the answer say so; and explain that you are a grad nurse and still learning. Option two say," You know I'm not sure, but I will find out and get back to you!" That worked for me when I stared...and a year and 4 months after graduating there are still days I go to work with a few butterflies about what the day may hold, lol! But, confidence comes and I feel very sure of myself 99% of the time these days!
Thats really good advice! Thanks so much:)
